The current administration, in fact, sees education reform as focusing primarily on assisting poorly-functioning school districts as its first priority with regard to funding allocation. Will the viability of charter schools be consequently compromised?

The "No Child Left Behind Act", which George Bush signed into law on January 2002, was one of the most sweeping federal reform and it entailed the creation of strong state standards for what every child should know in reading and math from grades 3-8. Now it’s a electoral debated theme: the key point of contention for opponents of the legislation is parental choice, the opportunity for parents to freely move their kids from "chronically failing schools" to better public or charter schools. John McCain does plan to take NCLB further in giving parents more freedom of choice in education by increasing access to tutoring services, while Obama is against school vouchers and would create new public schools.

Ora è tema di dibattito in campagna elettorale, perchè i suoi avversari contestano la "parental choice”, la possibilità per i genitori di spostare i figli da scuole “cronicamente non funzionanti” a scuole pubbliche o parificate migliori. Se John McCain ha in programma di continuare su questa strada, Obama è contro i vouchers e vorrebbe creare nuove scuole pubbliche

WASHINGTON - DINO D'AGATA - Qualunque sia il risultato delle elezioni del prossimo mese, sin dal primo dibattito presidenziale di venerdì scorso, è stato chiaro che il prossimo presidente americano avrà molto da fare. Né John Mc Cain, né Obama sanno quale sia la più efficace soluzione alla crisi finanziaria e ci si chiede cosa stiano pensando tutti quegli ottimisti che, a suo tempo, ci rassicurarono che lo sfacelo dei mutui sub prime non avrebbe avuto effetti dannosi sull'economia.
