The March of Life began in 1974 to remember the Supreme Court’s decision in Roe v. Wade, deeming abortion a fundamental right, and to petition Congress for redress.About thirty prolife veterans organized a committee and began making plans for the first March for Life. On January 22, 1974, the first March for Life was held on the West Steps of the Capitol. An estimated 20,000 committed prolife Americans rallied that day to support the preborn and to ask the government to overturn Roe v. Wade.Numbers have gradually risen through the years until now there are about 400,000 people who march each year.
