VIDEO/ Memorial Day: tribute to veterans
Graves at Fort Logan decorated for Memorial Day
This Monday, May 28, is Memorial Day in the United States, a day to commemorate all those who died in wars. Flags are placed on the tombstones in cemeteries and a special tribute is paid to those veterans who died serving.
Not only have many soldiers lost their lives in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in recent years, but many others have been injured, both mentally and physically by their service. Los Angeles Habilitation House is a non-profit organization that works to find disabled veterans employment, and a new sense of purpose.
LAHH hired four veterans from the Veterans Village of San Diego, seven in total, and we encourage other employers to do the same. Our employees from VVSD are exceptional. This is the opinion of one veteran, Ronta F. of the U.S. Army, on the help he received from the LAHH: "I felt a window of opportunity and hope fly by, I felt I had to grab it. People do not get opportunities such as this every day and I am feeling very grateful to Nancy and Guido for having given me this opportunity. The hunger is in me and I have to stay hungry for this because this is what I need to be stable not only for myself but for my family, that depends on me. For so many years, I have been part of team-work and being a team player. I feel I am ready and willing to get started once again. I have the drive in me thanks to you people for putting it in front of my face and challenging me”.
Then, we also asked Bill, U.S. Navy Combat Veteran, one of our VVSD hires, his thoughts about Memorial Day: "We, as Americans need to take time to remember what it is really about. A day to remember the men and women of our Armed Forces who have served their country and sacrificed so we can be free to live in the greatest country on earth. We owe a debt of gratitude to them that can only be repaid with remembrance, respect, and support."
We wanted to share this video for Memorial Day created by the VVSD. This is a tribute to the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan, whom we honor and remember. Take time to remember, to thank, to support.
