The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 carried out by al Qaeda under Osama bin Laden led to the deaths of almost 3000 people. The day began with two hijacked planes flying into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center at 8:46 am and at 9:03. Within two hours, the buildings had collapsed. Shortly after, the Pentagon was hit and the fourth plane crash-landed in a field after passengers attempted to fight off the terrorists. This attack sparked the War on Terror, still going on today.
